All great nurses were once students. Some say it was fun being a student, while others think it was difficult. Either way, all nursing students want to be professionals one day. It may take time to become a full-fledged nurse, but it can really be fulfilling when that time comes.

And of course, while you are working hard for it, you can still make use of a good laugh. Here are ten funny signs that you are a student nurse:

1. You drive some patients crazy by checking on them every fifteen minutes.

You got orders to check on your patient’s vital signs every fifteen to thirty minutes. But being the student that you are,  you literally count each minute so you can rush to your patient’s room exactly fifteen minutes after the last time you did. You cannot make a mistake in counting the minutes, because you’d think a minute late will make everything wrong.

2. Weird smells don’t bother you anymore.

You got used to being around rooms that smell weird for most people. You can stay all day inside the Obstetrics Ward and not mind how bad the smell is. You can assist with procedures effortlessly without complaining.

3. You love your scrubs so much that you wish you could wear it all day.

You envy the nurses who have to stay in the hospital overtime. You love your scrubs so much that the first time you wore them, you had to ask people to take dozens of pictures of you.

4. You sleep with your books.

You ditch party invitations just to study for an upcoming exam. You read and highlight every word in all your books and end up sleeping when everyone else is already waking up.

5. You are not allowed to talk about your day over dinner.

Actually, you are not allowed to talk about anything you did on that day whilst eating. People get grossed out by the stories that fascinate you, like when you assisted in cleaning your patient’s Penrose drain. Sorry to burst your bubble, but they will never understand you and you actually gross them out.

7. You have been denying the fact that you have a coffee addiction.

All your friends tell you that youare already addicted to coffee and your constant fidgeting and craving can prove it.As an excuse, you claim that you cannot live without coffee because you only get around three to four hours of sleep before you have to attend another Pathophysiology class.

8. You constantly make schedules.

One hour for studying, fifteen minutes for eating, back to studying for four more hours before going to sleep at 4 o’clock in the morning.

9. You find yourself sitting around and listening to your heart and lung sounds.

These sounds seem to be so interesting that you cannot get over the fact that you are now learning how to identify the different lung and heart sounds.

10. Hand sanitizer has started to become your best friend.

Whether in class or in your clinical rotation, you carry around with you your hand sanitizer. You claim that you cannot live without it, because you have started to become a hypochondriac germaphobe.
